What is the work?
I stumbled upon a love for mantra and harmonium purely by accident. I have been practicing meditation for the past several years. That journey led me into a yoga studio, and eventually to a Kirtan event, where I first heard harmonium live, and was totally enveloped in the vibrations of everyone singing mantras together. Shortly thereafter, I began playing and teaching harmonium, and practicing mantra in my personal practice. This work is fun, it's grounding, and it's a beautiful way to incorporate bhakti yoga (the yoga of devotion) into your everyday life. The sacred work of singing mantra and playing harmonium in a lesson environment tends to be part instruction / part bhakti practice.
In harmonium work, you will learn many of the basics associated with keyboarding/piano. I have resources and strategies that I use in these sessions to get you playing the chords for mantras a bit faster, and we learn the corresponding theory as we go! In addition, we will cover technique and styling associated with traditional harmonium. Each lesson is based around a mantra you would like to focus on. We can take the mantra arrangements of other Kirtan artists, or work together to come up with melodies and sounds that feel most authentic to you.
