about me |
Beth, here!
Welcome to Songhaven. Over the past several years, I've been fine-tuning my teaching practice to embody one primary principle that:
Everyone should feel safe and supported in their personal journey of discovering / honing their authentic musical voice.
How Did I Get Here?
I was fortunate enough to grow up in a home that honored and practiced music everyday. Both of my parents had experience as music teachers. I remember spending time in the music studio where my dad taught piano, guitar, mandolin, and voice lessons, thinking, "Yeah, this is what I want to do when I grow up." I tried to learn to sing and play just about every instrument that was available to me. It was clear, as young as nine years old, that singing and playing piano were my true loves.
After receiving a Bachelor's of Music Education here in Nashville, I spent the first years of my career teaching music to children in the public school setting. This is where I developed my passion for teaching, and over time, began to shape my personal mission as a music instructor. During this time I was also cutting my teeth on private instruction and practicing my passion for performing the music I loved.
While I deeply valued the work I was doing in the public school setting, reaching such a broad range of students on a daily basis, my love and intuition for private instruction grew deeper. I quickly realized, that in this setting, I was able to customize every individual's time specifically for them. The results were powerful. I realized this was my true calling.
So now, my time is spent with individuals who are ready to take a deeper dive into their musical passions and goals.
This work is profoundly meaningful to me, and I take each student's journey very seriously in my planning and preparation for each lesson. The gift of seeing my student's reach their goals, make growth, and leap towards their musical potential is one that I do not take for granted. I love what I do, and want others to love what they do, in our time together. This is the heartbeat of my teaching practice.

When I'm Not Doing or Teaching Music?
I'm drinking coffee,
snuggling up with a book,
traveling,
practicing yoga,
spending time outside,
performing karaoke with friends,
or, yes, catching up on some netflix. :)
